The LED Matrix block contains an array of 8x8 LEDs that combined can be used to display numbers (0-99) and basic patterns. In this guide, you will learn how to create a counter and display the current value on an LED Matrix.
Before you start, make sure you have a Power Station properly powered up and a WiFi Block already activated and paired with your computer. If you don't know how to do this, please refer to the section Activating Your WiFi Block.
- Snap your LED Matrix Block to your WIFI and Power station stack. A small LED on the bottom left corner of the block should start blinking. If your WiFi Radio is paired, you should now see 3 blocks online; Power Station, WiFi (identified by its IP address) and an LED Matrix. Click on the LED Matrix menu item to add the block into your workspace:
- Enter into the LED Matrix’s Logic Maker by clicking on the newly created red canvas icon and then the middle action icon:
- Inside the Logic Maker, add 2 ‘Play’ gates, a ‘Clock’ gate, a ‘Counter Between’, an ‘Action’ gate and connect them in the following way:
Change the value in the ‘Clock’ gate to 500ms, this indicates the speed of your clock (1 pulse every half a second). Specify the upper limit of your ‘Counter Between’ gate by changing the second input box, type ‘99’. This makes the counter go back to 1 once it reaches 100.
- Click on ‘Apply’ to save your changes and then click on the ‘Play’ gate connected to the ‘start’ port of your ‘Clock’:
If everything was done properly you should now see the value of the counter increasing every half a second and the number appear on your LED Matrix.
